What is the ruling of the following hadith
“Whoever drinks water straight after getting upon, his strength decreases” (Reported by Tabarani)
Answer:
In the name of Allah the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
I searched for this hadith properly in the Mujam al-Kabeer of Tabarani and well as mujam as-Sageer and could not find it.
I could not search properly in Mujam al-Awsat due to the difficult manner in which the author has arranged the book and likewise I failed to find the hadith also in this book based on my little research, however Al- Haysame الهيثمي)) in Majmaus-Zawaid ( مجمع الزوائد ) quote this hadith. Here is the actual text from the book
21 – 6 – باب شرب الماء على الريق
8292 – عن أبي سعيد الخدري ، عن النبي – صلى الله عليه وسلم – قال :
” من شرب الماء على الريق انتقصت قوته ” .
رواه الطبراني في الأوسط ، وفيه محمد بن مخلد الرعيني ، وهو ضعيف
Tabarani reports from Abu Saeed Al-Khudri that the prophet said :
“Whoever drinks water straight after getting upon, his strength decreaes [1]
Tabarani then mentions this narration has a weak narrator in it.
Najmudeen Damasqia (.نجم الدين الغزي (977 – 1061 هـ = 1570 – 1651 م ) also mentions in his booksإتقان ما يحسن من الأخبار الدائرة على الألسن. that this hadith is weak[2]
