Is watching TV for Islamic purposes haram?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Which hadith or verse of quran tells that listening music is prohibited in islam.2.If keeping T.V. for islamic porpose is haram so why not keeping mobile or surfing internet is haram since it is the latest mode of entertainment, why madarsas like nadwatul ulema make C.D. roms of speeches by there famous scholars, for sure this CDs will be watched on TV only.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1892/1485=H)

(1) In countless traditions and verses, music has been declared haram and prohibited.

(2) It is not right to analogize the TV to mobile and internet. These two things have not been made for entertainment. This is the reason that many people utilize them in fair and allowed ways, except TV that is nearly impossible to use it without a sin. However, if a person uses mobile in unlawful ways like TV then it will be equally sinful.

As far as the action of some scholars is concerned, you should ask this question to them.
