What is Tawassul?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
1.What is Tawassul? 2.Is it permissible to say Ya Rasoolallah?

(Fatwa: 200/178=H/1430)

Tawassul is to seek the intermediation of one’s good deed or any pious man humbly with the intention to make prayer (dua) more acceptable to Allah.

(2) Saying ya Rasoolullah has different rulings; if anyone considers the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) omnipresent like Allah then it is unlawful, rather it amounts to ascribing partner to Allah (shirk). Also, it is tantamount to blaspheme to the Prophet, the chosen and the head of all those passed and those shall come. And, if anyone does not the above belief, but calls ya Rasoolullah out of immense love, as a father addresses his son living in far off country while writing a letter to him or as poet addresses someone who is absent like one who is present and so on, then in all these conditions it is allowable.
