Who is the Imam of Deoband Maslak and whose Fiqh do they follow?

Assalam-o-Alaikum, I hope that when you get this question, you will be in your good health. Recently, i was discussing on some topic, when some one said that Shah Waliullah is the Imam of Deoband Maslak. He said that he has read Shah’s books and other deoband scholars and says that because Hazrat Shah Waliullah was the Muhadith and because of him we have knowledge of Hadith in Sub-Continent, he is Deoband’s Imam. I want to know that, what is the position of Shah Waliullah in Deoband Maslak, and who is the Imam of Deoband Maslak, and whose’s Fiqh do we follow??? and who is Imam Muhammed (the student of Imam Abu Hanifa)? I will be thankful for your time and effort you will put in this question for me.

Answer:

(Fatwa: 1550/1211=H)

Hazrat Shah Waliullah (may Allah bless him) has perfect knowledge of Tafseer, Usoolut Tafseer, Aqaaid, Usoolud Deen, Ilmul Akhlaq, Asrarus Shariah, Ilmul Fiqh etc. He was Ameerul Mumineen Fil Hadith in India and abroad. He had complete command over the four schools of Fiqh. However, he was practically a Hanafi. (See for details: Nuzuhatul Khawatir 6/328) Hazrat Shah Waliullah is academically like the father and the Ulama of Deoband are like his heirs. From this point of view, he is an imam as well, as Hazrat Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi and Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanotavi are called imam attributing to him.

(2) In Fiqh-e-Hanafi, Hazrat Imam Azam Abu Hanifah, Hazrat Imam Abu Yusuf and Hazrat Imam Muhammad (may Allah bless them) have the grade of imamah. The latter two were the disciples of Hazrat Imam Abu Azam.
