Is it allowed to celebrate birthdays according to Islamic teachings?

I am Mehvish Kamal, want to ask a Q about Birthday Celebration Which become very popular among the MUSLIMS.Please tell me it is allow in Islam and The FOOD and CAKE which is made in this celebration is Halal or not.

Celebrating birthday is not proved from Shariah. It is the custom of the Jews and Christians, so Muslims should avoid it.
قال عليه السلام :من تشبه بقومٍ فهو منهم .
One should avoid participating in the custom of birthday, but the food prepared in it cannot be termed as haram.
