Can Zakat money be used for providing medical treatment for Muslim patients in need?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
A hospital is providing excellent treatment to poor Muslim patients completely free. Can I donate money to this hospital from my zakah?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In order to pay the zakah tamlik is a condition i.e. the amount of zakah is given to some eligible person and he is made its owner. You may give your zakah in the possession of some poor Muslim patient then he has the option whether he uses it in his treatment or uses it for his other needs. It is not correct to give zakah money directly to the hospital.
