Intentionally Breaking Fasts Of Ramadaan

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta Azaadville

Question:

A person intentionally broke a Ramadhan fast 3 years in a row. Will kaafarah be waajib on him 3 times, or will one kaffaarah suffice with the qadhas?

Answer:

If the cause of the fast being broken was sexual relations, a separate Kaffaarah will be required for each broken fast, regardless of whether the fasts were broken in a single Ramadaan or multiple Ramadaans.

If the cause of the fasts being broken was not sexual relations, one Kaffaarah will suffice for all the broken fasts, regardless of whether the fasts were broken in a single Ramadaan or multiple Ramadaans.

In both the aforementioned situations, the Qadha of each fast broken should be observed as well.
