When should a person say salam when performing salah? Does he move face simultaneously saying salam?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
When a person is performing salāh individually (munfarid), he should first turn his face and then say As-salāmu ῾alaykum wa rahmutallāh.[1]
When salāh is performed in congregation, the muqtadī (follower) should say salām simultaneously with the Imām. As soon as the Imām says the words of salām, the muqtadī should turn his face and say salām.[2]
