Is it permissible for a Muslim to work as a bouncer at a nightclub?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, to work as a bouncer is permissible. However, to stand as a bouncer at the doors of casinos and nightclubs is impermissible.[1] Such a person will be exposed to nudity, music, wine and many other vices on a daily basis. In addition, such jobs are gauged negatively among the society and can heavily damage one’s reputation and honour.
A Muslim should seek a job where his exposure to impermissible elements is minimised. Imān is the greatest commodity a person has. All the dollars and pounds of the world do not equate to the value of Imān. The price and worth of Imān is greater than all the gold, silver and diamonds put together. Our life revolves around the security of our Imān. Preservation of Imān until one’s last breath is obligatory on us. Imān equivalent to the size of a mustard seed is sufficient to purchase the everlasting gardens of Paradise.
If by providing security to something or someone comprises our Imān, then there can be no greater loss than this.
