Salaami and Urs

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: I don’t read salaami. What do I do when we at a function and entire hall stands up for salaami? Do I just sit or do I stand up out of respect? And then every Thursday they have zikr at the mosque, is it advisable for me to go? And are milaads ands urrs permissible or not? My husband goes to a soofie mosque so do I follow him or stick to my beliefs? My husband is not a soofie, nor a tablighi nor a sunnie, he only goes to the soofie mosque because his best friend runs the mosque and they call him for all there functions.

A:Firstly if at these functions there is intermingling of sexes then you should not attend. If you happen to be at the function and they all stand up then you should not because they are standing up with the belief that NABI (sallalahu alayhe wasallam) is present at that function and that is not correct. You should stick firmly with your beliefs and try and explain to your husband the correct belief. If he refuses to listen do not persist, just make dua for him.

May ALLAH guide us all to the right path.
