Teacher Hitting Student

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: We have had an incident at our maktab where I am trustee where the Maulana has admitted 4 instances of mildly disciplining the child.

In the first instance he slapped the child in the face. The parent claims marks were left but Maulana is not certain that marks were left.

The second instance is of tapping the child on the head with a plastic bench. The injury sustained suggests that there was more than a tap on the head. The child received a cut to the head.

The third instance was that of pinching which according to the parent left marks, but the Maulana is uncertain if marks were left.

The 4th incident was tapping on the head with a plank of wood.

In such a scenario what is the shari’ee punishment for the actions he has admitted to?

A: If the teacher cannot manage his anger then he should be asked to do some other work. It is not correct to hit the children.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
