Going for Hajj when one has debts

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: I will be embarking on Hajj this year, Inshallah, and I want to find out what is my correct Islamic duty with regards to fulfilling long term debts. Do I have to pay the complete amount or ensure that the payments due within that period will be made?

A: If you settle the installments that are presently due and you feel that you will be able to pay the remainder amount after returning from Hajj, it will be permissible for you to go for Hajj if your creditors do not mind.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
