Birds as Pets

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: Are Muslims allowed to keep birds as pets?

A: It is mentioned in a narration that by keeping birds (pigeons, doves, etc) in the house, the focus of Shaytaan is diverted from the children. (Aakaamul Marjaan fee Ahkaamil Jaann V1 P214). The children can be protected from Shaytaan by keeping birds in the house.
