Verses of the Quraan and Benefits

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: I was talking to my mom and we talked about spiritual healing by reading certain ayats (verses) numerous time or a name of Allah to make things hard easier. I know all benefits are from Allah. Then I said Quran has the cure for everything and a thought came up that all benefits from that is from Allah. It’s as if Iforgot. Now I’m scared I might have committed shirk (polytheism).

Also, is there any shirk in asking Sheikhs for ayats or Names of Allah which you read numerous times and Allah will make things easier for that person? Example: if you have financial problems and you ask a Sheikh what should I read so that Allah makes things easier for me.

A: The Qur’aan is the Kalaam (speech) of Allah Ta’aala. A person subconsciously knows that all benefit is from Allah, thus no Shirk was committed. You knew that all the time but suddenly the thought came to the fore and you became worried.

There is no Shirk in the second question. It is similar to Du’aas taught to us by Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam). They are the formulas, with the belief that the effect comes from Allah Ta’aala alone.
