Cleaning Impure Carpet

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: If urine or vomits fell on carpet after cleaning with wet sponge three time will it be paak (ritually clean)?

A. Using a wet sponge to remove impurity is not enough to clean the carpet. The only way a carpet can be cleaned from impurity is by using a vacuum machine that can suck up the water, because each time the area is washed, the water spreads into the carpet and with it the impurity also spreads. Therefore, you need to use a machine that will suck up the impure water thus making sure that with each suck the impurity is also removed. The suction serves the purpose of rinsing. Wash the area and absorb the water with the vacuum machine. Do this at least five times to ensure the carpet becomes Paak.
