Is it Makrooh or Haraam to cause damage to your body to an extent that it causes organ failure ?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Is it Makrooh or Haraam to cause damage to your body to an extent that it causes organ failure ?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.

Allah Ta’ala has created us through His majestic power and magnificence and has designed our bodies with utmost prestige. Our bodies have been moulded in the most ideal of ways. No creation has the power or ability to even create such a master piece which Allah has created. At the same time, our bodies are a trust entrusted to us by Allah with certain limitations.

In the case of an operation, as a last option, if an organ of a person’s body fails due to unforeseen circumstances during the operational procedure, it will be an exceptional situation.

However, it is Haraam to cause harm to one’s body unnecessarily.[1]

Your question is general. In order to give a specific answer, you may elaborate a specific situation.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
