Is it allowed to wear turbans with the Ottoman tughra (seal)?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

1. Is it permissible to watch the series ‘Omar’ that aired on MBC, an Arab TV station?

2. I purchased caps and turbans with the Ottoman tughra (seal) on them. I did not realize at the time, but the seal says “Mahmud Khan bin Abdulhamid Muzaffer daiman”. Is it still permissible to wear these caps?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

  1. At the outset, we wish to point out that it is impermissible to watch Television as it is a disastrous device that has caused immeasurable damage to the youth and the society at large. Television programs are detrimental to our Imaan, our minds and our way of thinking. It is filled with such programs that are immoral and lewd. These programs have destroyed the morality and modesty of society. Moreover, it is the religious obligation of every Muslim to keep the Sahābah in high esteem and not attribute to them what they have not done are said. Having said this, it should be understood that most television programs are adjusted to fulfil the excitement of the audience; hence, the amount of drama is increased, parts are omitted and statements are rephrased, which in the case of the Sahābh is an unacceptable act.
  2. It is permissible to wear the Topi in reference provided there is no non-Shar‘ī connotation attached to the person in reference.
