Are vaccines permissible?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamualakum Respected Mufti Is it permissible to give vaccines to children? These vaccines do contain haraam ingredients.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, one may take medication containing haram ingredients only if it is recommended by a trustworthy Muslim doctor and he assures that there are no halāl alternatives.[1] The same ruling applies for vaccines containing haram ingredients.
