…the newspaper that i deliver adverties alcohol . Is it halal for me to keep distrubiting this paper…

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

My question for you is: i deliver the local newspaper in my area and the newspaper that i deliver adverties alcohol .  Is it halal for me to keep distrubiting this paper. If not  i would be willing to give it up , but i am in need of the money that it gives me. Is it haram and should i stop delievering it.  Thank-you for your time.

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

The purpose of the newspaper is to give news and not to advertise.  The intention of the employee delivering the newspaper is to deliver the newspaper and not to deliver advertisements that are included in the newspaper.  It is wrong for the newspaper company to include such advertisements in their paper but the employee delivering the newspaper is not responsible for that.  Therefore, the income from delivery of newspapers that contain advertisement of alcohol will be lawful.  However, it is discouraged since there is a doubt of assisting in vice.
