What is the ruling on mixed weddings?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

If they are forbidden, what part of these weddings causes them to be haram? Also, please offer advice on how to deal with family pressure for attending these weddings.

Answer

1. Any mixed gathering is totally forbidden in Islam. intermingling of the
sexes draws the wrath of Allah Ta’ala.
2. Ignore ‘family pressure’ and adhere to ‘Shar’ee pressure’. Initially, it
may seem difficult to steer away or to abstain from such family gatherings.
Continue advising the family about the ills and prohibition of such
gatherings.
