Marrying an illegitimate girl and bad luck

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Slm. Is there any bad luck or lack of blessing with regards to marrying a illegitimate girl. I heard that because she is illegitimate lots of bad luck comes her way and that bad luck can be transferred onto her legitimate children. Jzks

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There is no concept of bad luck in Islam. Rasoolullah (ﷺ) said:

عن جابر، قال قال رسول الله عليه وسلم “لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا غول”[1]

Translation: “There is no transitive disease, no ill omen and no ghoul (in Islam).”

If one marries an illegitimate woman, it does not lead to bad luck. In Islam the concept of good and bad is based on adhering to Shari’ah. If any person (legitimate or illegitimate) adheres to Shari’ah, he will invoke the mercy and favours of Allah. If any person (legitimate or illegitimate) disobeys Shari’ah, he will incur the wrath of Allah.
