Aleeza meaning JOY

Aliza , daughter of Ali radiyallaho anhu

Amara,meaning eternal beauty

Liyana ,meaning softness or tenderness

Eliza,meaning unique or precious

we wanted to know if by choosing one of these names we are not committing shirk or any sin ,or if it is haram in any way to name any of these . we are especially interested in Eliza. please guide us.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Islam emphasizes that Muslims should have good names and give good names to their children.

As stated in a Hadeeth:

سنن أبي داود ت الأرنؤوط (7/ 303)

قال رسولُ الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم-: إنّكم تُدعَوْنَ يومَ القيامَةِ بأسمائكم وأسماءِ آبائكُم، فاحسِنُوا أسماءكم

The Prophet () said: On the Day of Resurrection you will be called by your names and by your father’s names, so give yourselves good names.

(Sunan-Abu Dawood, Vol 7, Pg 303)

  • Aleeza or Aliza is a Hebrew name and not suitable for a Muslim.
  • Liyana is an Arabic name for girls that means softness, tenderness, and delicacy. It is a suitable Muslim name.
  • Eliza is a Greek name which means oath of God, or God is satisfaction. Eliza is not a suitable name for a Muslim.
  • Ammaarah means long-lived.
