Dear Respected Mufti saab, Iftaa students and other staff at Darul Iftaa,
Greetings from the Land of Rising Sun, Japan. We have a small Muslm community in this land. Total Muslims account for about less than 1% of the total population of Japan.
Jazak Allah khairan for this invalueable service of Online Fatawas to Muslims around the world.
I have the following question:
In many companies in Japan, the employees are required to wear ID cards while at work. The ID card has their Name, Photo and Employee number etc. They are either worn by lanyards and hund around the neck; or attached to the left pocket of shirt. In any case, the employee photo on the ID should be visible according to company rules.
My question is, whether we can pray Salaah while wearing ID cards, which has a photo? Considering the fact that it it cumbersome and difficult to remove the ID card each time for salaah.
Also, is it allowed to lead salaah wearing ID cards with pics printed on them?
I know Darul Iftaa is busy in Ramadan, but I would be thankful for a reply.

May Allah keep you firm on preaching the Shariah in Japan and use you to serve and propagate the Dīn in Japan. Ameen.
In principle, it is makrūh tahrimi (severely disliked) to have pictures of ensouled objects which are clearly visible on one’s self during salāh. We advise you to tuck the ID card into your shirt if it is hanging around your neck. Alternatively, you may wear a jacket to cover the ID card if it is attached to the pocket. These two options are not cumbersome.[1]

(قوله ولبس ثوب فيه تصاوير) لأنه يشبه حامل الصنم فيكره وفي الخلاصة وتكره التصاوير على الثوب صلى فيه أو لم يصل اهـ.
وهذه الكراهة تحريمية

وفي المحيط رجل في يديه تصاوير وهو يؤم الناس لا تكره إمامته لأنها مستورة بالثياب فصار كصورة في نقش خاتم وهو غير مستبين اهـ.
وهو يفيد أن المستبين في الخاتم تكره الصلاة معه ويفيد أنه لا يكره أن يصلي ومعه صرة أو كيس فيه دنانير أو دراهم فيها صور صغار لاستتارها ويفيد أنه لو كان فوق الثوب الذي فيه صورة ثوب ساتر له فإنه لا يكره أن يصلي فيه لاستتارها بالثوب الآخر والله سبحانه أعلم

وَيُكْرَهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ أَوْ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ أَوْ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ أَوْ عَلَى يَسَارِهِ أَوْ فِي ثَوْبِهِ تَصَاوِيرُ وَفِي الْبِسَاطِ رِوَايَتَانِ وَالصَّحِيحُ أَنَّهُ لَا يُكْرَهُ عَلَى الْبِسَاطِ إذَا لَمْ يَسْجُدْ عَلَى التَّصَاوِيرِ وَهَذَا إذَا كَانَتْ الصُّورَةُ كَبِيرَةً تَبْدُو لِلنَّاظِرِ مِنْ غَيْرِ تَكَلُّفٍ

(قوله ومفاده) أي مفاد التعليل بأنها مستورة (قوله لا المستتر بكيس أو صرة) بأن صلى ومعه صرة أو كيس فيه دنانير أو دراهم فيها صور صغار فلا تكره لاستتارها بحر، ومقتضاه أنها لو كانت مكشوفة تكره الصلاة مع أن الصغيرة لا تكره الصلاة معها كما يأتي، لكن يكره كراهة تنزيه جعل الصورة في البيت نهر (قوله أو ثوب آخر) بأن كان فوق الثوب الذي فيه صورة ثوب ساتر له فلا تكره الصلاة فيه لاستتارها بالثوب
