Who will name the child?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamu alaikum

I have question of naming the Child

Who has rights on Naming the child ?. Is it father or mother of the child?.

If father and mother has a dis-agreement on the naming, Who get the precedence of naming the child?. father or Mother incase they are not willing to come to common terms.

If father names the child as “A” and mother names the child as “B”, then what will be his name during Day of Judgement?.

If wife goes and names the chid against the wish of his husband and take the birth certificate . What the Islam ruling on this issue?.

Answer

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

When a child is born, we are advised to adopt all means to invoke the mercy of Allah and save the child from the evil effects of shaitan. Hence, the Azaan is called upon birth. Azaan invites the mercy of Allah and repels the shaitan. Disputes deprives one of the mercy of Allah.

Parents should mutually decide on the naming of the child.[1] If they cannot decide, consult with a senior person of the family or a pious person for his guidance. It is not appropriate for parents to dispute and have animosity on the naming of the child. The attitude of one parent registering the child with the name against the will of the other parent is irresponsible. That attitude deprives one of the mercy of Allah.
