Gifts from Na-mahram

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I was in a relationship with a girl from childhood, we were very close, she had married around 8 or 9 years back, but till few days before we were talking, chatting through the phone. And a couple of years ago I realized that what we are doing is nothing but Zina. We didn’t have intercourse, but hugging, kissing and slept together so many times. And it’s very hard to quit for both of us even, I tried very hard to quit. But now Alhamdulillah I have broken that relationship. We are not in touch from few days.

Now my question is that I got some gifts from her like watch, clothes….. Can I use it or not?

Kindly ignore my previous question.

My second question is about my earning.

I am working in a private company and most of the time there is no work to do. I am simply spending my office time with other things which is browsing, playing game with the phone. So my question is that is my earning halal or not. Because I do not have barakh in my financial condition. I use to pray namaz and I involve in tableeq work. What shall I do.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

1) It is encouraging to note that you broke the haram zina relationship with the girl. That is guidance and courage from Allah. Appreciate that guidance and be steadfast on it. InshaaAllah you will be weaned off that evil relationship soon. Discard everything of that girl by giving the items away to someone else. Do not have any of hers within sight or thought.

2) If you completed your work, your income will be halal. [1][2][3]

3) As a matter of trust and ethics, inform your management that you have time on hand and offer yourself to do more work for the company.

4) Be steadfast in your Salah and continue the noble work of tableegh.

5) Analyze your financial situation to determine the cause for lack of barakah and make adjustments accordingly. The following dua is also effective for barakah;

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ[4]

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

If on any day, the employer does not give his employee any work to do, then there are two possibilities: One is that he is keeping him on the basis of a monthly or weekly wage, and the employee reported for work but was not given any work to do. In this case, he has to be paid for his time, as well as his day off. But if he is kept on a daily wage basis then he will have to be paid for the days on which he works, and not for the days on which he is not given work.
