Is regular singing and listening music forbidden in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Has music been considered “Haraam” in Islam? If it has been, then is listening to it a minor sin or is it among the “Kabeera” sins?

Answer

Music is expressly prohibited in many Ahaadith. Among the dominant purposes
of our beloved Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) was to destroy musical
instruments. (Mishkat vol.2).
