Munafiqs

Munafiqs

By Mufti Ebrahim Desai

Q.) I heard an alim say “Munafiqs are Muslims, but they are not Mu’mins”. Is this statement correct? [Salih Ahmed, UK]

A.) A Munafiq is he who portrays to be a Muslim while he conceals Kufr in his heart. The above type of Munafiqeen were at the time of Rasulullah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam. Therefore, those Munafiqeen were Muslims (believers externally) but not Mu’mins (believers by heart).

However, today there are signs of Nifaq (hypocrisy), for example, speaking lies, not fulfilling promises, etc. which were common practise of the Munafiqeen. And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
