What is the procedure for performing istikhara and what are the benefits of Salaatut-Tasbeeh?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
As-salaamu-alaikum-warahmatullahi-wabarakatuh,
Dear respected Mufti Saheb,
(1)I know the purpose of doing istikhara and when it should be performed, however i have never been taught how to perform it. I would be very grateful if you could inform me of the procedure of istikhara salaat.
(2) Can you also please tell me what is ‘ Salaatut-Tasbeeh’ and the benefits of performing this salaat.

Jazakallahu Khair

Answer
Bismihi Ta’ala

1) The procedure for this is, perform two raka’ah of optional prayer before going to sleep. Upon completion of the prayer, recite Alhamdulillah, and then durood shareef. After that, recite the du’a for Istikharah. Thereafter, go to sleep without speaking to anybody, facing the Qiblah. Continue with this process everynight until the reason for which Istikharah is achieved.

2) Salaat al-Tasbeeh is an optional prayer performed on some of the glorious nights throughout the year. Although the Ahaadith relating this Salaah are weak, the combination of many weak Ahaadith on one issue brings strength to it. For this reason, it may be performed. The virtues for it are, forgiveness for ones sins.

And Allah knows best.
