Facebook Predictions: A Sinful Temptation and the Consequences for Salaah

Q: Actually I was on Facebook when I saw some prediction games close to horoscope. I knew it is big sin to play and read the results but I
could not stop myself. I am feeling very regretful as I know that for 40 days, my Salaah will not be accepted. If I sincerely repent to never do that again, will my salaah be accepted?

A: All these things (Scorpion, Leon, Capricorn, etc.) have no basis in Islam. It is a serious sin for one to believe that his future will be determined through astrology. The knowledge of the future is known to Allah (الله تعالى) alone. Hence a Mu’min should not get involved in these baseless things nor place his reliance upon them. You should sincerely repent to Allah (الله تعالى) and make a firm resolve that you will not return to this sin in the future. Since this action is close to the actions of shirk, you should recite the kalimah excessively. If you sincerely repent to Allah Ta’ala for committing this sin and make a firm resolve not to return to it in the future, then Allah Ta’ala will accept your tawbah and accept you Salaah.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
