The Rulings on Laser Eye Surgery and Corrective Nose Surgery

Question: Hope you are well and in good health. I have a couple of questions.

Is it haram to have laser eye surgery?

When i was young i broke my nose and had a small operation. I sometimes have difficulty breathing through my nose but its nothing major as i breathe through my mouth most of the time. Would it be haram if i had another nose operation/plastic surgery done to make it smaller as it is bigger than what it was before because of the bone moving out of place.

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and states.

1) Laser eye surgery is permissible.

2) A nose surgery to allow for easier breathing would be permissible, as there is a valid health consideration in undergoing it.

However, I would advise you to explore all other options first before deciding on any surgery. There might be alternative remedies to your problem, and surgery doesn’t always work and can in fact worsen conditions, or provide only temporary relief.

And Allah knows best.
wassalam
Faraz
