Washing Nostrils in Ghusl

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: Mufti Sahib, you once mentioned to me that ‘moistening the finger and allowing the water reach the soft part of the nose is sufficient’ in Ghusl (bath). I feel I’m over complicating myself when I have to do this. I try to make sure that every single corner of the soft part of the nose gets wet/moist. Am I overdoing it?

A: Yes indeed you are overdoing it. All you need to do is take a little water into the nose as far as the soft flesh is. There is no need to ensure that every part of the nostril is washed. Shari’ah does not place such difficulty on anyone
