The Opening Takbir (‘Allahu Akbar’)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Is the initial takbir (takbir tahreem) of any salat a fard or wajib component of the salat?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Wa Alaykum Assalam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu,

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful & Compassionate

Saying the opening takbir is an obligatory condition of the prayer.

Specifying the words ‘Allahu Akbar’ is necessary (and thus not permitted to leave).

This relates to both obligatory and non-obligatory prayers. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; Nasafi, Kanz al-Daqa’iq]
