Please advise me on the issue of Quranic tafsir. I have been searching for an authentic tafsir in english and have come across the works of Abu Ala Mawdudi. I have not purchased any of his works because I have come across many articles saying he was unqualified and an enemy of the ahl al sunnah. Please inform me whether he is regarded as an islamic sholar or not. If not then what would be the most detailed tafsir available in english?

Mawlana Mawdudi was a scholar, and had some distinguished service for Islam. However, his methodology and understanding varies from that of traditional Sunni scholarship, and thus he held many untenable or incorrect positions.
Thus, it is better and more beneficial to refer to other works of tafsir. Arguably the best work currently available is Mufti Muhammad Shafi`s Maariful Qur’an, which is readily available.
