Madhi Being Washed in the Washing Machine

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question:

There was some Madhi on my underwear, so I put it in the washing machine, after the wash, there was still Madhi on the underwear, does this mean that all the clothes that wherewith the underwear in the washing machine are Najas?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Madhi is a liquid which is a heavy impurity, and it is a clear liquid so it will have to be washed thrice to be purified, if the washing machine has completed a 3-cycle wash whereby the water is drained during every wash it will be considered as pure even if some stain remains due to some colour in the Madhi.1 Hence if the 3-cycle wash was complete the other clothes will not be impure, however, if the washing machine did not complete a 3-cycle wash you will need to wash all the clothes again and you should wash the Madhi before putting it in the washing machine.

Only Allah knows best
