Wearing Fake Nails and Nail Polish During Period

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Answered by: Shaykh Ahmed bin Mohamed Umarji

Question:

Is wearing fake nails or nail polish haram when you’re on your period?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

As long as the nail polish or fake nails do not have any ingredients that are impure they will be permissible to wear.

The issue with regard to nail polish and fake nails generally has to do with the validity of Wudhu and Ghusl. Water needs to reach the limbs for the fulfilment of Wudu and Ghusl.1 Non-porporus nail polish prevents water from reaching the limbs.

Since you are not required to make Wudu or Ghusl during your period this issue does not come into play.

Only Allah knows best
