Can One Miss Fasts Because of Being Too Young?

Answered by: Maulana Muhammad Asadullah Anwar Adam

Question:

Salaam, my daughter has started menstruating at the age of 10. Although the fasts of Ramadan are fardh for her, can she miss some out because she is very young & immature? They are very difficult for her at such a young age. Also, the school only allows children from yr 6 to fast while at school

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Once a person has reached maturity it becomes compulsory for them to fast.

If she is not physically able to fast due to a sickness or a condition then it is permissible for her to miss it during Ramadhan and do Qadha of them later on, otherwise, it is compulsory for her to fast.
