Beyond being a mere spectacle, what are the spiritual realities of lunar and solar eclipses?

These are two great signs of Allah Most High’s Wisdom, Power, and the marvel of His Creation.
When signs are manifest, Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) teach us to turn to Allah Most High in reflection, prayer, and by being humbled by remembrance. [Tahtawi/Shurunbulali, Hashiyat Maraqi al-Falah; others]
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us specifically how to turn to Allah for the solar and lunar eclipse through prayer.
