Question

I am a Christian, and my partner is Muslim. Is it a sin for us to be together and want to be married?

Answer

First, thank you for contacting us and asking us about your concern. Getting first-hand information from a reliable source is the right thing to do instead of going on hearsay.

As for your question, the answer is no. It is not a sin for a Christian woman to marry a Muslim man. The Quran allows it upon condition that the children are raised as Muslims. Wisdom and care are necessary when dealing with an inter-religious or inter-cultural relationship. It can be difficult at times and unbearable at other times, especially when dealing with two sets of in-laws. Please ask yourself the following questions before you make your vows:

If and once you have decided to marry, I recommend that you marry him sooner than later, as dating is not allowed in Islam. He should be with you legally only. I pray that you have a blessed and prosperous union.
