Can I Perform Hajj with Gift Money I Receive?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question

My wife and I desire to go for Hajj this year, but I do not have the financial means to afford it now. My wife, who has acquired jewelry gifts at the wedding, is willing to sell some of them, gift me my Hajj, and sponsor her own Hajj costs. I desire to go for Hajj when I am able to and take my wife along. I have full faith Allah will provide me with the means sometime in the future.

What would be best – take the offer of the gift from my wife or wait?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

It is permissible, though not obligatory, to accept a monetary gift in order to perform the Hajj. [Maydani, Al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab]

Whether one does so is a manner of personal discretion. If there are no perceived cons to accepting the gift, there is nothing wrong with doing so.

Allah knows best
