Taking Covid-19 Test doesn`t Break one`s Fast during Ramadan

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Jordan
Does taking Covid-19 test during day time of Ramadan render one`s fast invalid?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

Having consulted experts and done research, we arrived at the conclusion that Covid-19 test doesn`t break one`s fast during Ramadan since the dry swab inserted in the nose doesn`t reach the throat. For fast to be considered invalid, Maliki jurists stipulated that the object must be inserted inside a bodily passage while Hanafi jurists stipulated that it remains inside and not be connected with something else outside of the human body. Since both stipulations aren`t met in this swab test and fast can`t be invalidated by doubt then whoever took the test while observing fast must continue his fast and he is cleared from liability before Allah. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
