Is It Permissible for My Daughter To Move Away From Home To Go to a Better University?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question:

My daughter is very religious, ma sha Allah. She would like to find out that if it’s ok for her to move within our state for a much better university and live either in an apartment close to the university or dorm with other girls?

Answer:

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for raising a religious daughter and congratulations on her acceptance to good universities.

Yes, it is permissible for your daughter to move away from home, and it’s even better that she lives with other like-minded girls who are studying. She should take the means to live in a safe place, follow a curfew and not be out alone if at night if possible. Please see the ruling in the link below, and may Allah give you and your family the best of this world and the next.
