Translation of quote of Abū Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him)
Question:
How would you translate the narration below?
مَا تُؤْيِسُنِي رِقَّةُ عَظْمِي، وَلاَ بَيَاضُ شَعْرِي، أَنْ أَلْقَى عِيْسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
Answer:
“The tenderness of my bones and the whiteness of my hair [i.e. my elderly age] does not make me lose hope in meeting [Prophet] ʿĪsā ibn Maryam [peace be upon him]”.
قال ابن سعد في طبقاته (٤/١٧٤): أخبرنا الفضل بن دكين قال: حدثنا شريك، عن إبراهيم بن مهاجر، عن كليب بن شهاب الجرمي قال: سمعت أبا ذر يقول: ما يؤسني رقة عظمي ولا بياض شعري أن ألقى عيسى ابن مريم، انتهى. وحكاه الذهبي في السير في ترجمة أبي ذر الغفاري رضي الله عنه (٢/٥٧) بلفظ: تؤيسني۔
