Is the Area Between the Chin and the Neck (Bottom of the Face) Classed As the Beard

Question:

Is the area between the chin and the neck (bottom of the face) classed as the beard? The part is getting extremely messy and looks odd as my facial hair is pretty sparse whilst the area mentioned is grown quite a bit so I was wondering if it could be trimmed.

Answer:

Darul Ifta Birmingham has already shed light regarding the boundaries of the beard in the following Fatwa:

As a result, the area between the chin and the neck which is not part of the ‘Jaw’ or ‘Jawbone’ may be trimmed.

An easy way to find out which part of the beard falls on the ‘Jawbone’, is to open the mouth, then pass the hand to feel along with the beard: the hard part, is the jawbone, and the soft part above the ‘Jawbone’ is the cheek and the soft part below the chin is the part that you referred in your query.

This soft area may be trimmed along with the throat but one should act with extreme caution to not touch the beard.
