Question

Which hand should one use to wash his feet in wudhu

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

It is Sunnat to do khilal of one’s toes in wudhu with the little finger on one’s left hand.  One should start the khilal from the little toe of one’s right foot and finish on the little toe of the left foot.   (Ilmul Fiqh p.6 v.1 & Kitabul Fiqh p.105 v.1)

The practice of the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam was to use his right hand for performing good acts such as is shown in the hadith narrated by Saaidah Aishah Radiallahu Anha that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam liked to use his right hand in all matters: in combing his hair and wearing his shoes. (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam would use his left hand for things such as cleaning the nose and for istinjah. Washing the feet is from hygiene and purification, therefore, the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam would use his left hand to do khilal between the toes in wudhu. (Riyadhus Saliheen p.222)
