Question

Someone said, “I let you go.” Is this Talaq Baain?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

A talaq Ba’in is constituted by a vague phrase stated by the husband with the intent of divorce[1]. An example of this is like “You are free from me.” If the husband had said “I let you go” with the intention of divorce, then yes, it will constitute a Talaq Ba’in. However, if the wife said to her husband, “Give me a divorce,” and he responded by saying, “I let you go,” then this will be a Talaq Raji’ (revocable).
