Are there any prayers which can be said in a civil marriage?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulfiqh.com

Question:

I am a revert and I am getting legally married on 9 September this year.  I am already Islamically married but we are having a wedding.  With our wedding we are having a ceremony but a Muslim Civil Service, so I am looking for verses and prayers from the Quran that I could use to be read out so the ceremony is more religious and appropriate to us.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

We welcome you to Islam. We pray to Allah the Almighty He blesses you and showers you with His Mercy.  Amīn.

You may recite the following sermon which was taught by the Prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam and recited before a wedding:

All praise belongs to Allah, we praise Him, pray to Him for help; ask Him for pardon; ask Him to guard us from the evil of our own souls and from the evil consequences of our own deeds. Whomsoever He guides none can lead astray.  Whomsoever He leaves straying nobody can guide him. I bear witness that there is no God save Allah, who has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.

I Seek Allah’s refuge from the accursed devil, In the name of Allah, the most gracious the most merciful.
O you who believe! Fear Allah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah.
O mankind! Fear you Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship) . Surely, Allah is Ever an Allah is ever watchful over you.
O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger he has indeed achieved a great achievement.[i]
