Humans and Jinn would be unable to lift an iron hammer from Jahannam

Question

How sound is the Hadith in Mustadrak Hakim (8773) that if one iron hammer from hell is kept on earth whole humans and jinn together will not be able to lift it?

Answer

Imams Ahmad, Hakim and Abu Ya’la (rahimahumullah) have recorded this Hadith.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al Khudri (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “If an iron hammer [from Jahannam] had to be placed on earth, and [humans and Jinn] gathered, they would not be able to carry it.”

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 3 pg. 29, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 600, Musnad Abi Ya’la, Hadith: 1388)

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic. ‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) states regarding the chain of Musnad Ahmad and Musnad  Abi Ya’la, “There are some weak narrators, who have been declared credible.” (رواه أحمد، وأبو يعلى، وفيه ضعفاء وثقوا)

(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 388. Also see: Targhib, vol. 4 pg. 473/474)

The Hadith is suitable to quote.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
