A believer does not humiliate himself

Question

I heard the following Hadith and I am trying to locate the source:

المؤمن لا يذل نفسه

Answer

Imams Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith with the following words:

لا ينبغي للمؤمن أن يذل نفسه

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2254, Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 4016. See here)

The translation of the full Hadith is as follows:

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “It is not appropriate for a believer to humiliate himself.” They [The Sahabah radiyallahu ‘anhum] said: ‘How does he humiliate himself?’ He replied, ‘By taking on a trial which he can not bear.’”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
