Q. I know that if I smoke whilst fasting, my fast will be invalid. What if I apply a nicotine patch on my arm, would it break my fast?
A. A nicotine patch is applied externally and there is no element of it that will nullify the fast. It is similar to a person applying oil or lotion to one’s body, which is absorbed by the skin and does not nullify the fast. (Al Iktiyaar Lita’leelil Mukhtaar, 1/190)
