Who pays the Zakaat on a Kruger Coin belonging to a child?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. If my child who is 1 year old was given a gift of a kruger coin by his grandparents, who pays the zakaat on this? The non baalig child or his parent?

A. If your child received a Kruger coin as a gift from his grandparents, the Kruger coin belongs to your child. Since the Kruger coin belongs to your child, Zakaat is not obligatory on your child as he/she is not mature (Baaligh). Hence, your child will not have to discharge the Zakaat of it and neither will you have to as a parent on behalf of your child until he/she becomes mature (Baaligh) and fulfils the criteria of discharging Zakaat.
